Preparing for Hurricane Ida
Hurricane Ida is moving through the Gulf of Mexico and approaching the northern Gulf Coast. The fast-moving storm, with current maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour, is expected to strengthen and become a major hurricane prior to making landfall Sunday night in Louisiana.
Hurricane watches are in effect and all flood gates in the New Orleans area will close by 2 p.m. Central Time tomorrow (Saturday). With these gate closures, all routes eastward and westward through New Orleans will be affected, including interchange routes on other carriers. BNSF will suspend all rail operations between Lafayette, Louisiana and New Orleans area at 12 p.m. Central Time tomorrow (Saturday).
Our operating teams are closely monitoring the hurricane and are prepared to quickly address any impacts to our network.
