Coal Network Update for Friday, August 30, 2024

Date
Aug 30, 2024

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
BNSF operating teams are seeing improved fluidity at our merchandise terminals. Terminal dwell, at its lowest monthly average in the past two years, has decreased from last week and has improved over five percent from the average for July. Average car velocity remains steady with last week and is running six percent higher than the average level reported for July. Our local service compliance measure remains level with the previous week and has improved from last month.

This week, traffic moving across the core of our Southern Transcon experienced delays as BNSF crews conducted maintenance and track repairs on the Panhandle and Hereford Subdivisions, which extend from the Texas Panhandle through Oklahoma and Kansas. This work is essential to keeping our network infrastructure in optimal condition, and we continually work to minimize the intermittent delays that occur when crews are active.

LABOR DAY OPERATING PLAN
Coal trains - both loaded and empty - will continue to operate according to regular schedules.

SERVICE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
The extreme heat and humidity affecting the Midwest this week are expected to give way to more seasonable temperatures this weekend.

The rest of the BNSF network should experience favorable operating conditions for much of the Labor Day weekend, and no significant service interruptions due to weather are anticipated at this time.
